Palmer, Sarah Margaret2008-05-25 Sarah Margaret PalmerPassed away at the age of 101 on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at her residence. Born November 3, 1906, on a farm near Selma, Iowa in Van Buren County. She was the daughter of Harrison and Sarah Margaret (Hutton) Oliver, the youngest of 11 children, all of whom have preceded her in death. Margaret married George Dewey Palmer on January 13, 1934 in Nevada, Missouri. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in 1991. George preceded her in death on December 1, 1991. Margaret graduated in May 1924 as Valedictorian from Douds-Leando High School in Iowa. In January 1925 she graduated from Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. From there she went to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked as a bookkeeper, secretary and office manager for 11 years until her marriage. Margaret lived on a farm about 10 miles southeast of Nevada in the Sandstone vicinity for 10 years. She moved to Nevada in 1945 where she resided until her death. Margaret was a member of the United Methodist Church, a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and Beta Sigma Phi, Kansas City Chapter. She was also eligible for membership in the D.A.R. Survivors include: her 3 sons; Robert and Connie Palmer Nevada, Harold Palmer Nevada and Lloyd and Joanne Palmer New York. Margaret was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm on Thursday, May 29 at the United Methodist Church in Nevada, Missouri. Internment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery.
