Lathrop, Weldon Gene "Fafa"2005-10-08 Weldon Gene “Fafa” Lathrop, 73, passed away at his home in Sheldon, Missouri on October 8, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Gene was born to Homer and Marguerite Lathrop on September 8, 1932. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one sister, Lois Swan and three brothers, Jack Lathrop, Lewis “Hank” Lathrop, and his twin brother, Eldon Dean “Nick” Lathrop.Gene served in the military during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sheldon. Gene married Wilma Slates on February 12, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. He owned and operated his own excavating business, “Lathrop Excavating,” for many years. He was an avid collector of antique tools and machinery and enjoyed going to auctions and visiting with many friends. Gene is survived by one brother, H.C. Lathrop of Sheldon and four sisters, Dorothy Leavell of Sheldon, Olene Kepler of Nevada, Shirley Windes of Lamar, and Marilyn Bond of Sheldon. Gene is also survived by his wife, Wilma, and three children, Glenna Reaves, Sheldon, Carla Jett, Sheldon, and Roy Slates of Nevada. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of which he dearly loved. Private services will be held at the Sheldon Cemetery. Gene’s request was that donations to the organization of your choice be sent in lieu of flowers. Gene will long be remembered by many and all who had the pleasure of being acquainted with him. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
